WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Shaina Johnson had 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, Linnea Brandholm added 13 points and junior transfer Brittany Johnson racked up 12 in her debut as the trio helped Davenport's second-ranked women's basketball team christened the 2013-14 season with an 89-53 victory over Florida Memorial Friday evening.
Shaina Johnson and Kristina Cousins, who in her second stint with DU made her first appearance since 2009, both paced the Panthers with four assists on the evening while four different student-athletes each forced a pair of takeaways.
Davenport combined to shoot 37 percent from the field, 45 from beyond the arc, while keeping Florida Memorial to a 31 percentile in field goals and 27 in 3-point range. The Panther bench also outscored the Lions 41-24 while taking 27 points off of turnovers forced.
The Panthers jumped to an 8-2 lead at the 17:40 mark in the first half thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers by Brittany Johnson. DU would lead as high as 12 with 1:16 left but four from the charity stripe helped Florida Memorial trim the lead to 37-28 heading into the locker room.
Bouman, Brittany Johnson and Brandholm quickly went back to work as each of their field goals extended Davenport's lead to 43-29 with 19:56 left. The Panthers led as many as 39 points, when freshman Molly Babbs connected a jumper at the 1:40 mark.
The Panthers return to the basketball hardwood Saturday as they take on Palm Beach Atlantic at 2 p.m.

Davenport improves to 2-0 against Florida Memorial…Newcomers Kelly Dineen, Brittany Johnson, Molly Babbs and Kelcie Haizlip made their debuts with Davenport…The Panthers improve to 10-2 in season openers and have won four straight.
