WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Playing their second game in less than 24 hours, the No. 2 ranked women's basketball team rode the shoulder of sophomore Tiesha Stokes to post an impressive win over NCAA DII Palm Beach Atlantic on their home floor 96-81. Stokes finished with a game high 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds to help the Panthers improve to 2-0 and they will be back in action on Monday when they face Northwood (Fla.) at 2 p.m.

Tiesha Stokes led the Panthers in three different categories on Saturday afternoon as the sophomore posted 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds and four steals. Alison Bouman finished with a season high 17 points while Linnea Brandholm (13) and Kayleigh VanKeulen (11) also finished in double-figures.

Davenport got a bucket from Tiehsa Stokes on the opening possession and followed with a layup from Bouman to take a 4-0 lead and they never looked back while playing in a hostile environment. The lead grew to as many as 11 in the opening half on a layup from Shaina Johnson and DU took that same margin into the locker room leading the sailfish 52-41.

DU, winners in their season opener on Friday night against Florida Memorial, came out and increased the margin to 17 in the first 2:15 of the second half and let the lead slip under 10 only once throughout the closing 20 minutes. Leading 63-54 with 14:28 remaining, DU then used a 22-8 run over the next 5:57 to up their lead to 23 and they would hold on for the 15-point win. The run was finished off by a three-ball from sophomore Alex Law.

For the game, DU shot 37-72 from the field (51.4%) and 9-25 from behind the arc (36.0%). They did struggle from the foul line however as they were just 50% (13-26) where the Sailfish were 18-26. The Panthers held the advantage on the glass 51-45.

Davenport will return to the court in West Palm on Monday when they play at Northwood University (Fla.) at 2 p.m.

Post-Game Notes

Davenport has now won their last eight games in Florida (two in 2011-12, two in 2009-10, two in 2006-07) after suffering a defeat to NCAA DII Tampa in 2004…The double-double by Stokes marks the second game in a row DU has had a points/rebounds double-double - Shaina Johnson did it Friday vs. Florida Memorial…It is Stokes first double-double since December 5 at Siena Heights
