The DAN
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fourth-ranked Davenport women's basketball team closes the year 2013 at the DU Student Center Friday and Saturday when it welcomes Holy Cross (Ind.), Calvin and Marygrove for the second annual Holiday Tournament. The Panthers will take on the Saints Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Calvin Saturday at 3 p.m. Davenport, owners of an 11-1 record, returns to action for the first time since Dec. 14.

About the Holiday Tournament
Davenport is hosting its second consecutive Holiday Tournament. Holy Cross (Ind.) and Marygrove return to the tournament while Calvin makes its debut, taking St. Clair's (Canada) spot. In day one, Holy Cross defeated Marygrove 64-60 while Davenport blasted St. Clair 119-35. Less than 24 hours later, Marygrove held off St. Clair 66-54 and Davenport blew away Holy Cross 114-61.
A Quick Look at Holy Cross (Ind.)
The Saints are coming off an 81-78 win at St. Francis in CCAC action last Thursday. Four Saints reached double figures in points during the contest with Kari Barnes leading the way with 16. Mary Fitzgerald also had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. While Holy Cross is shooting 40.4 percent, Barnes (10.1) and Lindsey Steffen (12.0) are the only athletes to be averaging more than 10 points per game.
A Quick Look at Calvin
The Knights, winners of four of the last five games, are recently coming off a 95-28 win over Illinois Tech last Friday. Anna Timmer led the visiting Knights with 11 points, followed by Abby VanderWoude with 10. Calvin, which is averaging 73.8 points, is led by Breanna Verkaik (13.9 points per game), Kayla Engelhard (11.3) and Hannah Acre (10.8).
