GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference is in for a treat Monday as the No. 6 Davenport and No. 9 Concordia women's basketball teams, the top two teams in the league, battle it out for the tournament title at the DU Student Center Monday at 7:30 p.m. Fans can catch the game live on the Davenport Athletics Network (DAN) with
Ken Clemens and Ed Keating behind the microphone.
While the Panthers (29-2) search for both a fifth straight tournament title and 30-win season, one individual is looking to join the 1,000 point club. In three years as a Lady Panther,
Karli Harris has scored 985 points and needs 15 more to reach 1,000. She has already reached 1,000 throughout her collegiate career, which includes the 24 points scored her freshman year at Oakland University.
Concordia advanced to the WHAC Tournament championship game after holding off No. 21 Siena Heights 71-63 in Ann Arbor. The Cardinals had to chase the Saints from the start of the game before the tides changed approaching intermission.
Abbey Hengesbach led the Cardinals with 30 points, followed by Marion Rodriguez with 20.
It wasn't too long ago when Concordia and Davenport last met. On Feb. 13 in Grand Rapids,
Karli Harris scored a then career-high 25 points and the four seniors combined for 41 of Davenport's 70 points as the Lady Panthers posted a rout of No. 6 Concordia 70-46. The win tied Davenport atop the WHAC standings with the Cardinals and both teams finished with 20-2 records, thus sharing the conference regular-season crown. Harris poured in 17 of her 25 points in the opening half as she led the Lady Panthers to an 18 point lead at the break. She was joined in double figures by
Tiesha Stokes who had 11 off the bench to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds to give the freshman her sixth double-double of the season. Davenport, as a team, shot 45.2% from the floor while limiting the Cardinals to just 32.2%. DU also forced Concordia into 19 turnovers as they handed them their worst loss of the season by 13 points.
