GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – As the leaves begin to change color and a familiar breeze moves its way to Grand Rapids, a sound can be heard from Patterson Ice Center from Davenport head women's ice hockey coach Tom Hofman. He and his Panthers are two days away from taking the ice for the first time this weekend as they host Miami (Ohio) for a two-game non-conference set Saturday (6 p.m.) and Sunday (10:30 a.m.).

Hofman wasted no time putting together the inaugural roster since the day he accepted the position almost a year ago. In fact, he searched both the east and west sides of North America, with 10 from the United States (Michigan, Illinois and Pennsylvania) and four from three provinces in Canada (Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia).
 
Wearing the 'C' on her jersey this season is Tara Boliard, a senior defenseman from Canton, Mich., who comes to Davenport after playing for two seasons at Buffalo State. Looking to help Boliard on the ice are junior forward Caitlin Harrison and sophomore defenseman Megan DeVries.
 
Joining Hofman's staff this season is Lauren Iavasile and Joe Messina. Iavasile and Hofman have a history together as both worked together for the Meijer State Games of Michigan from 2011-12. Iavasile, who has been a member of USA Hockey since 1998 and holds a Level IV coaching card. Messina, who has been guiding the men's DI hockey team's goaltenders for 10 seasons, will be looking share his knowledge with the Lady Panthers.
