BENSENVILLE, Ill. – For the second consecutive game, the Davenport women's hockey team struck first but had to rebound from a deficit as Robert Morris' defense held on to beat the Panthers 6-4 in game one of the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association series late Friday night. Lexie Boydston scored two goals while Chantal Caraher and Darian Adams each had one on behalf of the Panthers. The two teams meet again Saturday night for game two at 8:45 p.m. EST.

Both teams would go scoreless for a majority of the opening period until Davenport (7-15-0, 6-9-0 CCWHA) broke the ice at 6:24. Kerri Rozeboom moved the puck wide and made a perfect pass to the trailing Caraher, who one-timed it into the lower left corner of the goal.

Robert Morris (16-5-3, 7-2-1 CCWHA) managed to tie the game up with 12 seconds left in the first period. During a scrum surrounding Lauren Yomantas' crease, the Panthers netminder lost her glove in the pile up and the puck found its way into the goal.

The Eagles wasted returned from the locker room and added two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead with 18:24 left. Davenport quickly got a one-goal deficit back while on the power play. After receiving a pass from Melissa Cresse, Boydston attacked the open slot and sniped one high glove on Eagle goaltender Amy Murray.

RMU added two more goals before heading into the second break leading 5-2.

After Robert Morris added its sixth goal at 14:05 into the third period, Rozeboom's hustle forced the Eagles into a tripping penalty and the Panthers paid them for their actions. Megan DeVries connected to Adams, who came out of the corner uncontested and slid the puck into the goal at 12:07.

Several minutes later, Monique Daigneault won the one-on-one race for the loose puck with an Eagle and found Boydston breaking away. Boydston followed with a shot at the same spot in the goalie's high glove to cut the lead to two.

Post-Game Quote – Head Coach Tom Hofman
"We came out a little sluggish again today, but YoYo (Lauren Yomantas) kept us in it by stopping 19 shots in the first period alone. It was a fast paced game and we were able to capitalize on some great opportunities. Scoring four, with two power play goals and six different players with points is definitely a step in the right direction. I'm excited for the girls. They are getting very close to that next win."
