BENSENVILLE, Ill. – For the third consecutive game the Davenport women's hockey team struck first with an early goal but Robert Morris answered back with two in the first period and four more in the third to take a 6-1 victory late Saturday night. After having to make adjustments due to injuries, head coach
Tom Hofman and the Panthers will use the upcoming weekend off to heal and prepare for a long road trip to Lynchburg, Va., to play two games against Liberty Feb. 7-8.
The Panthers (7-16-0, 6-10-0 CCWHA) got their only goal at 16:53.
Chantal Caraher made a one-touch pass in the neutral zone to
Darian Adams, who moved the puck into the Eagles (17-5-3, 8-2-1 CCWHA) territory and fired a high shot on the RMU netminder's glove side for the goal.
Robert Morris tied the game with 12:30 left and scored the go-ahead goal one minute before intermission. The Eagles collected the insurance goal with 17:52 left in the third period and netted their fourth goal three minutes later.
Davenport goaltender
Lauren Yomantas had a busy day between the pipes with 70 saves.
Post-Game Quote – Head Coach
Tom Hofman
"This was the most physically demanding weekend the ladies have had yet. YoYo (
Lauren Yomantas) stood on her head again today stopping 64 shots in an unbelievable effort. The amount of injuries forced the coaches to make some changes. Despite all of that, each one showed incredible heart throughout the entire game today. We have a very needed break next week to heal and recuperate before traveling to Liberty."
