LIVONIA, Mich. – Davenport's 19
th-ranked women's soccer team had to dig themselves out of a hole for the second consecutive match. The Panthers turned to the captain
Paige Eli to score the equalizer in the 83
rd minute but this time they couldn't find the golden goal in a double overtime to result in a 1-1 draw with Madonna Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (9-3-2, 3-2-1 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) found themselves trailing in the 28
th minute, when Jennifer Jurcak found one of the Crusaders (8-6-1, 2-3-1) leading scorers Ashley Parent on the right side, who beat Davenport keeper
Tara Gessler.
Davenport returned from the break aggressive on the attack, much like its 2-1 double-overtime victory over Indiana Tech last week. The Panthers tallied seven shots in the second half while holding Madonna without making an attempt up front.
An opportunity came up for Davenport in the 82
nd minute. Eli took a free kick from 40 yards out and made it just under the crossbar for the tying goal.
DU would record 10 shots during the overtime periods but couldn't find the golden goal.
With three matches remaining in the regular-season, the Panthers play the next two on the Turf Field starting with crosstown rival Cornerstone Wednesday at 7 p.m. The home schedule comes to a close Saturday with first-place Northwestern Ohio visiting at 2:30 p.m.
