Madison, Wisc. – The Davenport women's hockey team raised their win streak to six straight as they finished off the sweep of Wisconsin by a score of 5-0.
Chantal Caraher recorded two goals in the game to give her five total on the weekend. The Panthers will finish their eight game road stretch next Friday and Saturday as they Travel to Ohio to take on Miami University. The puck drops at 10 p.m. for game one on Friday night.
The Panthers and Badgers came out in the first period playing back and forth hockey, but neither were unable to find the back of the net as the game remained scoreless through the first period. Davenport came out in the second period and rode the hot stick of
Chantal Caraher as she recorded the first two goals of the game, and sent the Panthers into the 2
nd intermission with a 2-0 lead.
Lexi Boydston got things going in third as she recorded her 9
th goal of the season, with
Caitlin Dunne and
Tara Boliard assisting her on the score.
Darian Adams scored for the fourth consecutive game, and Boliard and Caraher was able to feed Dunne late in the period to put the Badgers away
Davenport outshot Wisconsin 64-15, as
Caitlin Nosanov notched her fourth consecutive shutout and fifth straight win behind the net.
"The team had to overcome a few injuries and push through some tough calls. The Defense played strong once again and really stepped up the offensive end of their game today", Coach
Tom Hofman said of his team after Sunday's win. "We are happy with the overall success so far, but we have yet to be given a real test."
The Panthers will enjoy a few days off before heading to Oxford, Ohio to face the defending national champions in Miami University on Friday and Saturday. "We will be preparing all week for defending national champion Miami (OH) and everyone will need to elevate their game if we expect to compete with them next weekend" Says Hofman. "I know the girls are up for the challenge".
