ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
Letesha Cannonier scored her third goal of the season in the 86
th minute but the No. 19 Davenport women's soccer team came up one goal short from completing a rally in the Panthers 2-1 loss to Concordia Friday afternoon.
The Panthers finish the regular-season 10-4-3 overall, 4-3-2 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. DU's sits fourth in the league standings with 14 points but the Panthers seeding to the upcoming WHAC Tournament is now in the hands of Cornerstone and Madonna. Both the Golden Eagles and Crusaders have 13 points and are in action Saturday. The top four teams in the conference host the quarterfinal round Wednesday.
After going scoreless in the first half, the Cardinals (10-5-3, 4-4-1 WHAC) jumped up front 1:50 into the second and net the eventual winner in the 71
st minute.
Davenport sliced the lead to one when
Tam Grzybowski delivered a perfect cross to Cannonier from about 18 yards. The senior forward chested it down and slotted it to the right side of the goalkeeper Jade Antolec.
Although the Panthers found the back of the net once, they knocked on the door numerous times, outshooting the Cardinals 20-7. Anteloc made eight saves on the afternoon while
Tara Gessler made two.
The Panthers won the corner kick department 4-2.
