Hudsonville, Mich. – The Davenport women's hockey team traveled down the road to meet cross-town rival Grand Valley State at the Georgetown Ice Center earlier this afternoon, with the Panthers coming into the contest looking to end their three-game losing streak. Davenport was unable to find the back of the net as Grand Valley took game two by a score of 2-0. Davenport will head back to the Patterson Ice Center next Friday night as they host Michigan State at 8 p.m.
Â
Grand Valley got things going early as Katie Danto scored her 5th goal of the season and put the Lakers ahead 1-0. Costly penalties put Davenport in tough power play situations, but were able to hold Grand Valley to just one goal after the first period of play.
Â
The second period saw a similar story as Kristen Iannuzzi recorded her first goal of the season to put the Lakers up 2-0. The Panthers saw plenty more shot on goal opportunities, but were unable to find the back of the net as the score remained 2-0 after the end of the second period.
Â
Davenport buckled down their defensive play even more in the third period, but still could not manage to score any points, resulting the game in a 2-0 final score in favor of Grand Valley. With failure to score any goals in this game, the Panthers are now on a 12-period scoring drought, and have no scored since the third period against Wisconsin back on October 19
th. Â
The Panthers will head back to Patterson Ice Center next Friday as they host Michigan State in game one of their home-and-home series with the Spartans, and then will travel to East Lansing that Sunday for game two of the series.
