East Lansing, Mich. – It had been over a full month drought for the Davenport women's hockey team scoring attack, but
Lexie Boydston was able to net her team-high eighth goal of the season, in a hard fought defeat to Michigan State Sunday morning. Kara Scaturro tallied two goals for the Spartans, as they went on to defeat Davenport 2-1, extending the Panthers losing streak to six games. The Panthers will be off until Dec. 5, where they will head north to take on Central Michigan.
Davenport got things going early as Boydston silenced the home crowd with her eighth goal of the season, and put the Panthers up 1-0 just three minutes into the game. Kara Scaturro would later answer for the Spartans, after taking assists from Sydney Glanz and Elise Plancon on the score.
Scaturro would then chip in her second goal of the game just 2:57 into the second period, which would turn out to be the game-winning score as Davenport was unable to come back with a score of their own.
Caitlin Nosanov took the goaltending duties for the Panthers; Totaling 27 saves on 29 shots. Her overall record now falls to 4-3 on the season.
"I would say we played some of our best hockey all season in the last two games vs. MSU. Although we had some trouble putting the puck in the net, our lines were clicking and we saw some great offense generating." Assistant coach
Megan Doyen said of her team after the loss. "We are going into break with a good taste in our mouth because we are happy with the way the girls are playing".
The Panthers will have almost a two-week break before heading up north Dec. 5-7
th, where they will visit Central Michigan for a game, and then Northern Michigan for a two-game weekend series.
