Panthers Win Opening Round of WHAC Men’s Soccer Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Six different members of Davenport's 10th-ranked men's soccer team found the back of the net as the Panthers cruised to a 6-0 victory over Indiana Tech Saturday to close the quarterfinal round of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament.

The third-seeded Panthers advance to the semifinal and will travel to Livonia to face No. 2 Madonna Tuesday at 2 p.m. The winner of the contest will meet either No. 1 Northwestern Ohio or No. 5 Aquinas for the championship game later in the week.

Davenport (16-3-0) got off to somewhat of a slow start but it wasn't until the 16th minute. Lito Esquivel sent a corner kick deep inside the penalty box where Jacob Love's header volleyed to Chase Burgess on the right side for another header that found the back of the net for the eventual match-winning goal.

Tyler Fischer scored the insurance goal in the 26th minute by dribbling into the keeper's box and rocketed a shot to the left side.

Four of Davenport's goals came from the second half. Dzenan Catic, Emmanuel Gorh and Jordan Van Oostenbrugge both contributed a goal and an assist throughout the period while TJ Ifaturoti completed the six-goal lead in the 86th minute.

Keeper Aaron Orban had a bit of a quiet evening between the posts, needing only to make one save on the chilly evening on the Turf Field. The offense did most of the work by outshooting the Warriors (7-9-2) 22-7 overall, 10-1 on goal.
