ANN ARBOR, Mich. –
Chantal Caraher scored the first goal of the game and
Lexie Boydston added two more in the second period to tie the game but the rally came up short as the University of Michigan women's hockey team scored three times in the third to take a 6-3 win over Davenport Friday night. Both Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association teams will have short rest to prepare for the final game of the regular-season Saturday at 3 p.m.
It didn't take long for Davenport (7-19-0, 6-10-0 CCWHA) to get on the board as Caraher scored 1:48 into the contest with help from
Catie O'Connor and
Darian Adams. But the Wolverines (13-10-3, 10-3-3 CCWHA) would answer back as Monica Korzon tied the game at 5:42 into the period. Although the Panthers killed a key 5-on-3 power play, the Wolverines found the back of the net thanks to Korzon at 18:46 to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room for the first intermission.
Michigan would come out of the break scoring the third goal 13 seconds into the period. The Wolverines would fail to stop Boydston from tying the game midway through the period. The freshman scored the second goal at 11:56 and again 2:10 later off a set up by
Caitlin Harrison.
Both teams went into the second intermission all knotted up two apiece until the Wolverines broke the tie 1:53 into the third. Erin Gregoire added some breathing room to Michigan's lead with an insurance goal 33 seconds later and would score the sixth goal at 13:17.
