BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's tennis team broke a two-match losing streak on Tuesday night when they took down NCAA DII and GLIAC foe Ferris State 6-3. The No. 24 ranked Panthers led 2-1 after doubles and won four of the six singles matches to take the overall victory. DU will now turn their attention to Florida where they will compete over the next week during their annual spring break trip.
After falling to Western Michigan and Hope College in their last two outings, the women's tennis team was anxious to get a win under their belt before heading south for Florida and they did it in convincing fashion over NCAA DII Ferris State. DU took a 2-1 edge after doubles as they got wins from
Alyssa Fuentes and
Emily Spiech (8-4 at No. 1) as well as
Montserrat Elizondo and
Marcie Kooyers (8-3 at No. 3).
Turning to singles, the wins kept rolling in as DU took victories in the final four matches at No.'s 3-6.
Puck Luttikhuis was the lone Panther to win in three sets as the others won in straight sets. Luttikhuis continued her outstanding play as she won 7-5, 1-6, 6-0.
Other winners included
Kristi Kuzdal at No. 4 (6-4, 7-6),
Montserrat Elizondo at No. 5 (6-2, 6-3) and
Angelica Woods at No. 6 (6-1, 6-0).
Davenport will now head to Florida for their annual spring break trip where they will compete in six matches next week.
