GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport will play three matches over the next 24 hours and they got it started with a convincing 7-2 win over NCAA DII and GLIAC foe Hillsdale College on Friday night. The No. 25 ranked Lady Panthers have won their last seven matches overall and will now host No. 21 Marian at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and finish with a 4 p.m. home contest against No. 20 Cardinal Stritch.
The wins keep piling up for the Davenport women's tennis team and they picked up yet another one over an NCAA DII opponent on Friday as they defeated the Hillsdale Chargers 7-2.
The Panthers led 2-1 after doubles with the team getting points from
Emily Spiech/
Alyssa Fuentes at No. 1 by the score of 8-6 and from
Montserrat Elizondo/
Kristi Kuzdal at No. 3 by a final of 9-8 (9-7).
Davenport then controlled the singles matches by taking five of the six points to post the final of 7-2.
Puck Luttikhuis moved up one spot to No. 2 this week and won 6-2, 7-6 while newcomer to singles that also won was
Angelica Woods at No. 6 – 6-3, 6-1.
The No. 25 ranked Panthers will return to the court on Saturday where they will host Marian (Ind.) at 8:30 a.m. at East Paris before taking on Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at MVP at 2:30.
