Box ScoreGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's tennis team is headed back to the NAiA National Tournament for the second straight year as they claimed the Unaffiliated Group Tournament on Saturday evening by downing Northwestern Ohio 5-2. The Panthers rebounded with four straight wins in singles after falling behind 2-1 in doubles. DU will now await their draw for the national tournament which will be announced on May 4.
Davenport found themselves in unfamiliar territory in their championship matches heading into singles play as they trailed the Racers 2-1 with the Panthers only claiming a win at No. 1 from
Emily Spiech and
Alyssa Fuentes.
DU then came out on fire in singles play with wins from Fuentes and Spiech as well as
Puck Luttikhuis which enabled the Panthers to only need one more win to advance.
Angelica Woods got that win as she won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to clinch the victory and send DU to the national tournament.
Davenport will now await their first round pairing which will be announced on May 4 by the national office.
