Balanced Play Lifts Women’s Tennis to 8-1 Victory over Taylor

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's tennis team returned to the courts for the second dual match of the season and the result was in favor of the Panthers this time as they took down visiting Taylor University 8-1 on Friday evening. DU took a 2-1 edge in doubles and then swept the singles play for their first victory of 2014-15. The Panthers will now host NCAA DII Lake Superior State on Saturday.

After opening the season with a 6-3 loss to NCAA DI Valpo last week, the Panthers got back to their winning ways with an impressive 8-1 victory over Crossroads League foe Taylor University.

DU won two of three doubles matches with the No. 1 team of Emily Spiech and Alyssa Fuentes winning 8-3 and the No. 3 team of Montserrat Elizondo and Angeloca Woods winning 8-2.

Turning to singles, DU got all six points with a fresh sweep of the Trojans as the Panthers did not drop a single set and fell in only 25 games. The most convincing wins came from Emily Spiech at No. 2 6-1, 6-0 and Bridget Barrett at No. 5 6-2, 6-0.

Davenport will look to rebound when they host Lake Superior State on Saturday at 9 a.m.
