Grand Rapids, Mich. –
Chantal Caraher recorded her first hat-trick of the season as she led the Davenport Women's hockey team to a 6-1 victory over No. 12 Robert Morris University Saturday night at the Patterson Ice Center.
Catie O'Connor also had two goals of her own, and
Darian Adams had one goal and four assists, giving her seven points total in the series. Davenport will be back in action for back-to-back home games next Friday and Saturday as they host WWCHL opponent Wisconsin.
Much like last night's game, the Panthers struck within the first thirty seconds of action as
Chantal Caraher took a pass from
Darian Adams and beat the net minder to put Davenport up 1-0. Adams would then find the back of the night as well in the period, giving her three goals over the past two games.
Caraher got things going for the Panthers in the second period as she tallied her second goal of the game to give Davenport a comfortable 3-0 lead with ten minutes left in the period. Robert Morris was able to cut the deficit to 3-1, which remained the score at the end of the second period.
The Panthers poured it on in the third as
Catie O'Connor netted two goals in the period, followed by Caraher's third of the night to give her the hat-trick.
Newcomer
Nina Van Orshaegen started her first game behind the net for the Panthers, coming up with 27 saves and only allowing one goal.
The Panthers will host the University of Wisconsin January 23 and 24, with Friday's game slated to start at 8 p.m. at the Patterson Ice Center.
