No. 2 Panthers Sweeps Battle of the Beltline with Win over Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Tiesha Stokes and Sara Clancy produced 25 of the bench's 41 points as the No. 2 Davenport women's basketball team led from start to finish to post a 70-35 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over Aquinas Wednesday night.
 
With the win, Davenport (21-0, 15-0 WHAC) sweeps the Battle of the Beltline, taking the two meetings each against Aquinas (7-16, 6-9 WHAC) and Cornerstone.
 
Daina Grazulis closed the night with 10 points to run her streak to 14 games with having reached double figures.
 
Davenport nearly cracked the half-century mark in shooting, finishing the day at 48.3 percent from the field. DU also went 4-for-11 from 3-point range and 8-of-13 on the free throw line.
 
The Panthers did keep the Saints at nearly 26 percent around the perimeter and 4-for-18 from beyond the arc. The short-staffed and very young Saints were led by McKenzie Breimayer, who collected 11 points and four boards.
 
Momo Neal matched her career-high eight rebounds to lead Davenport. The Panthers overall won the boards 45-34.
 
Davenport got the first bucket from Linnea Brandholm 1:07 into the game but it wasn't until a 13-0 run at the 11:30 mark that allowed the Panthers to run away with the contest.
 
The Panthers went into the locker room leading 38-15. Stokes had quickly scored nine points in six minutes of work in the period while Brandholm had eight including two 3-point baskets.
 
The first-place Panthers will travel across the state one last time over to Livonia for a battle with second-place Madonna Saturday at 1 p.m. Davenport will enter the weekend with a two-game lead over the Crusaders in the WHAC standings.
 
Post-Game Notes
The Panthers have won 18 straight meetings with Aquinas and improves to 19-6 in the all-time series…Davenport has held an opponent under 40 points for the first time in four games, when it defeated Lourdes 96-34
