Grand Rapids, Mich. – The No. 13 Davenport women's hockey team dropped a tough game Friday night as they fell victim to a 6-1 loss to No. 5 Michigan at the Patterson Ice Center. Lexie Boydston and Halle Hayes scored the only goals for the Panthers, and Nina Van Orshaegen took the loss between the net. Davenport and Michigan will be back at it for game two of their weekend series Saturday at 3 p.m.

It was a penalty riddled first period for both the Panthers and Wolverines as the two teams combined for eight penalties in the period, along with aggressive defense on display on both sides of the ice. 9:55 into the period, Michigan struck first as Kalli Bates beat the net minder Van Orshaegen for an unassisted goal to put the wolverines up 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

Things would take a turn for the worse for the Panthers as Michigan erupted for five goals in the second period, with Davenport unable to counter on anyone of them after two periods of play.

The Panthers played lock-down defense coming out in the third period, and put themselves on the board with 9:33 into the period as Lexie Boydston notched her team leading 15th goal to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Michigan would answer right back with their sixth goal of the night minutes later to put the Wolverines up 6-1, but Davenport would counter again as Halle Hayes scored the game's only power play goal with 2:25 left to play. Unfortunately, the two goals weren't enough to complete the comeback for the Panthers, as Michigan came out victorious by a score of 6-2.

The Panthers (12-7-2) and Michigan (10-4-0) will be right back into action tomorrow afternoon at the Patterson Ice Center with the puck slated to drop at 3 p.m.
