DETROIT, Mich. –
Chri Carter matched the number on her jersey, 22, in points as the second-ranked Davenport women's basketball team led from start to finish in a 85-41 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win at Marygrove Monday night.
Carter, who has now made more visits to the free throw line (18) in a game than any Panther in program history, came up two successful charity points short from tying Jeanette Woodberry's record of 14 set in 2007. The Panthers 46 overall free throw chances is also a program record.
Daina Grazulis finished with 17 points and
Alex Law added 10 as the only Panthers (14-0, 8-0 WHAC) in double figures.
Davenport (14-0, 8-0 WHAC) set the tone of the game within the first 10:28 at the half using a 21-2 run. Nine of those points during the momentum came from the charity stripe with Grazulis and
Sara Clancy producing three, Carter with two and
Alex Law with one.
The Panthers went 18-for-24 from the free throw line to take a 43-17 lead. Grazulis was the only player on both sides in double figures at intermission, scoring 11 points. While Davenport took advantage of the free throws, DU compiled a 34.4 shooting percentile from the field but did held Marygrove to 20 percent.
The Mustangs (3-13, 1-7 WHAC) were led by Raeha Weaver and Tiffany Bradford, who both chipped in a dozen points. Janeesa Jamierson finished one point short from joining the two.
Davenport returns to the east side of Michigan Wednesday when it visits Lawrence Tech. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
