LIVONIA, Mich. – The DU women's soccer team played Madonna University Saturday afternoon in their final regular season game of 2015. The Panthers trailed 1-0 at the half, but fought back in the second half as they tallied two goals to earn the 2-1 win.
The Crusaders controlled the first half as they totaled nine shots to just two from the Panthers. Madonna was able to take the 1-0 lead in the 19
th minute when they scored off of a rebound. The Panthers would fight off the Madonna attack in the second half as they fended off 14 Crusader shots and recorded five of their own.
DU tied the game in the 57
th minute as
Alayna Hilgendorf scored her 12
th of the season from
Shameeka Fishley as she chipped in the ball past the keeper. Fishley then sent the Panthers into the lead for good with an incredible goal from 35 yards out in the 72
nd minute when she scored unassisted for her ninth of the season and third game-winner of the year.
Beth Ledger made her second start of the season and recorded four saves in 45 minutes of action.
Tara Gessler relieved Ledger in the second half and earned the victory in goal with 45 shutout minutes and six saves.
