Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The women's hockey team improved to 3-1 overall with a 4-3 comeback win on Sunday morning at the University of Michigan. The contest was played at Veterans Memorial Ice Arena and the Panthers earned a weekend split with the Wolverines in CCWHA action. The Wolverines jumped ahead 2-0 early in the second period. Karoline Inman scored the first period's only goal on the power play at 14:17. Eleanor Chalifoux then scored 2:41 into the middle stanza for the Wolverines.
Davenport stepped up their play in the second and tied the game at 2-2.
Adrienne Porcalla scored at 13:39 from
Laken Kunz and
Lexie Boydston to trim the deficit in half. Boydston then tied the game at 16:48 on the power play from
Katie Dubro. UM then took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission as Mercedes Reyes scored at 18:36.
DU played stout defense in the third and kept UM off the board in the final 20 minutes.
Ashley Reese tied the game at 5:50 of the third from
Jenny Deane and
Caitlin Dunne and then Boydston scored short-handed at 15:24 from
Samantha Rogers for the improbable game-winner.
Dawn Salo again had a steady performance in net for the Panthers with 41 saves including 20 in the pressure-packed third.
"This was the effort the coaching staff has been waiting for early this season," said head coach
Tom Hofman. "We could see the confidence growing after each period today. We outplayed Michigan in the second period again today and were rewarded with goals. We still have some defensive things to work on and clean up, but our effort was great. We will refresh and get ready for Lindenwood-Belleville this week."
