ORLANDO, Fla. – After dropping their first match of their spring schedule on Sunday, the 12th-ranked Davenport women's tennis team dropped their second straight match on Monday against NCAA DI opponent Oakland.
Emily Spiech and
Alyssa Fuentes grabbed the only for the Lady Panthers in doubles, but the Davenport lost 8-1 to drop to 2-3 on the season. The Lady Panthers will be off on Tuesday, before they return to action against Webber International (Fla.) on Wednesday at noon in Orlando, Fla.
Davenport got off to a strong start as the duo of Spiech and Fuentes got the Lady Panthers an early lead with an 8-4 win at doubles number one. However, Oakland was able to grab the last two points in doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
In the singles matches, the Lady Panthers were unable to grab a point in singles as the Golden Grizzlies won all six of the singles matches.
Angelica Woods was the only player from Davenport to grab a set in a singles match as she was able to take the second set of her match 6-0, but she was unable to win the third set as she lost 13-11. The Lady Panthers are now 0-2 this season against NCAA DI opponents after they dropped a match against Valparaiso in the fall.
Davenport will be back in action on Wednesday as they face NAIA foe, Webber International (Fla.) at Star Island Resort at noon.
