Top-Seeded Panthers Face Lawrence Tech in WHAC Tourney Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – With the regular-season complete, the nine-time Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference champions Davenport women's basketball team now turns focus on the league tournament beginning Wednesday with Lawrence Tech at 7:30 p.m. Fans can catch the game live on the Davenport Athletics Network with Ken Clemens and Ed Keating on the call.

It's Postseason Time
Davenport now turn its attention to postseason play starting with the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament. Davenport, which has won seven total WHAC Tournament titles, including the last six. Altogether, the Panthers are 25-6 in the WHAC Tourney. Having already won one of the two automatic bids to the NAIA Division II Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa with the conference's regular-season title, Davenport will be using the WHAC Tournament to earn a higher seed to nationals, which begins March 11. Should DU win the WHAC Tournament, then the runner-up will receive the second ticket to Tyson Events Center.

How the WHAC Tournament Looks
As the top seed, Davenport will have home court advantage throughout the three-round WHAC Tournament. The Panthers host No. 8 Lawrence Tech Wednesday night. Siena Heights for the second straight season will have the No. 2 seed and hosts No. 7 Aquinas, which won the tiebreaker over Lawrence Tech based on the Saints winning the head-to-head matchup. Madonna will take the third seed and host No. 6 Indiana Tech and rounding out the rest of the bracket, No. 3 Cornerstone will take on No. 5 Northwestern Ohio down the Beltline.

A Quick Look at Lawrence Tech
The Blue Devils have already knew they had a spot to the WHAC Tournament but had to wait until the end of the regular season to determine who will their opponent in the quarterfinals. Allison Kitchen currently leads Mary Pinkowski's ballclub with 15 points and 6.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 60.7 percent. She also owns a 72.6 free throw percentage. Lawrence Tech is crawling into postseason play after having lost three straight and five of its last seven games.

Panthers vs. Blue Devils
This will be the seventh all-time meeting between Davenport and Lawrence Tech, with the Panthers winning all of them. This will be the first time the two schools meet in postseason.
