Adrian Attack Too Much For Women’s Hockey As they Fall 3-1 On the Road

Box Score ADRIAN, Mich. – Catie O'Connor scored the lone goal for the Davenport women's hockey team as they dropped game one of their home-and-home series with Adrian College Thursday night. This was the first game on the road for the Lady Panthers since Dec. 7. Davenport and Adrian will be back in action this Saturday at the Patterson Ice Center for game two of the home-and-home series.

Adrian got on the board first halfway into the first period when Jenna Jubinville found Summer Frey to put the Panthers in a 1-0 whole. The Bulldogs would strike again just minutes later in the period to send Davenport into the first intermission down 2-0.

The Panthers made the proper adjustments in the second period and held the Bulldogs scoreless. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to decrease the deficit, and still found themselves down 2-0 after two periods of play.

4:44 into the third period, O'Connor got the Panthers on the board after taking the feed from Courtney Curlee. The score was O'Connor's 14th on the season, tying Darian Adams for second overall on the team. The Panthers found several opportunities to even the score for the remainder of the period, but were put away after a Laflamme goal with 4:53 left in regulation to end the game in a 3-1 Adrian victory.

"Overall, we are proud of the effort. It was a rough first period and we had to battle back. The team came out flying in the second, historically our worst period, and played Adrian 0-0 in that second frame. Says head coach Tom Hofman of his team's performance. "As the away team, we were fortunate to have 2 different 5-3 powerplays in the third period, unfortunately we were unable to capitalize. This will have to be something we learn from, the coaching staff will make adjustments so we can begin to come out ahead in these tight games versus such good schools and league opponents. The girls should be proud of their effort on the road tonight."

The Panthers (12-9-1) and Bulldogs (8-3-3) will head back to the Patterson Ice Center this Saturday at 5 p.m. for game two of the home-and-home series.
