No. 2 Panthers Run Away With Sixth Straight WHAC Tournament Title

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Daina Grazulis scored 19 points, Kia Frazier and Brittany Johnson both added 10 as the No. 2 Davenport women's basketball team led from start to finish to claim a 62-37 victory over No. 20 Siena Heights and win its sixth straight – seventh overall – Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament title at the Student Center Monday night.

The Panthers (31-0) will now enter a win or go-home situation as they head to Sioux City, Iowa, for their 11th straight appearance to the NAIA Division II Tournament, which begins with the round of 32 March 11-12. The Panthers will know who their first opponent is Wednesday night.

In addition, the Panthers finish the 2014-15 home schedule perfect and run their impressive win streak to an NAIA Division II best 57 games. Davenport has not lost on its home floor since Feb. 8, 2012 to Madonna.

Despite the loss, the Saints (26-7) will also be at the Tyson Events Center as the second representative from the WHAC.

Johnson came up one rebound short from recording a double-double. She also had four of nine offensive boards to lead DU. Frazier finished with four rebounds but recorded five steals.

Davenport overall shot 39.3 from the field but had a cold evening on the 3-point line, going 2-for-13. It also held a 39-36 edge in rebounding over Siena Heights.

The Saints, meanwhile, were led by All-WHAC selection Sierra Calhoun, who led the entire game with 24 points. The Saints compiled a 31 field goal percentage and went 5-for-16 from beyond the arc.

After Shaina Johnson delivered a 3-pointer for the contests basket, it eventually began a 15-3 Davenport run to start the game. The Saints got as close as nine points when Calhoun hit a 3-pointer to cut Davenport's lead to 19-10 with 10:32 left.

The Panthers went into the break leading 35-20. Grazulis had eight points and Kayleigh VanKeulen had seven to lead the pack.
