INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Davenport men and women's tennis teams wrapped up the Knight Classic as they faced the host school, Marian (Ind.). The women's team snapped their two match losing streak with a 7-2 win, while the men lost their second straight match by the score of 5-4. Both teams will be back in action this week as they face WHAC foe Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
Â
After losing 5-4 to Cardinal Stritch in their first match of the Knight Classic on Saturday, the men's team looked to rebound against host Marian (Ind.), but the Panthers found themselves in another 2-1 hole after doubles play, as Juan-Phillip van Antwerpen and
Steven Vink were the only pair to win in doubles. In singles play, each team alternated wins as the Knights were able to edge the Panthers 5-4, to hand Davenport their second straight loss.
Â
The women's team fell behind early losing two of the three double matches with
Alyssa Fuentes and
Emily Spiech winning, 8-3, at doubles one. After trailing 2-1 heading into singles, the Lady Panthers were able to find their groove in singles as they won all six singles matches dropping just two sets to beat the Knights, 7-2. Davenport snapped their two match losing skid beating Marian, who is receiving votes.
Â
The women's team will step back into WHAC play, where they look to improve in their 1-0 conference record, while the men will start their conference schedule as they both host Lawrence Tech on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
