GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's tennis team returned to action on Tuesday as they hosted Ferris State at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. This was the second time in three days that Davenport has faced a GLIAC foe after they faced Saginaw Valley State on Sunday. The Lady Panthers fell to the Bulldogs, 5-4, as Davenport falls to 8-8 on the season. Davenport will they begin their final stretch of WHAC matches on Saturday on the road against Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio at 1 p.m.
The Lady Panthers fell behind early dropping all three doubles matches to start the match in 3-0 hole. The duo of
Alyssa Fuentes and
Emily Spiech were able to push their match into a tiebreaker, but the dropped the match at doubles one, 9-8 (9-5).
In singles, Davenport started to make their comeback as they Fuentes and
Puck Luttikhuis were able to win the first two singles matches in straight sets, while Spiech was able to comeback after dropping the first set to win in three sets, as the Lady Panthers were able to tie the match. However, Ferris State was able to grab wins at singles four and five to lock up the match as they won, 5-4, to hand DU their second straight loss.
The Panthers will return to WHAC play, as they travel to Lima, Ohio to face Northwestern Ohio on Saturday at 1 p.m., in a battle of a pair of top-25 teams.
