GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team was back in action on Saturday afternoon as they played their second to last regular season game against Indiana Tech. In the battle between the top two team in the WHAC, the Panthers were able to score twice in overtime to clinch the WHAC regular season title with a 15-13 win over the Warriors. Davenport will conclude their regular season on Sunday afternoon as they host Siena Heights on senior day with the opening draw slated for 1 p.m.
For the second straight season the Davenport women's lacrosse team was able to clinch the WHAC regular season title with the 15-13 win over Indiana Tech.
Taylor Balch led the offensive attack with three goals and five assists, while
Brooke Knoll and
Kaitlyn Lowden each tallied four goals apiece.
Jessica Lemcke scored three goals for Davenport for her eighth hat-trick of the season.
Sara Kuzava rounded out the Panthers goal scorers with one goal in the game.
The first half started as back-and-forth battle for the first 20 minutes of the game as teams traded goals for the first portion of the game as Indiana Tech led 4-3. Davenport started to click on offense as they scored the next five goals to take an 8-4 lead with 22 seconds left in the first half, but the Warriors were able to score with three seconds left in the first half to cut the Panther lead to 8-5 at halftime.
Davenport was able to stretch their lead to 10-5 in with 25:43 left in the game, but Indiana Tech came storming back as they scored the next four goals to pull within one with 17:42 left in the second half. Davenport came right back to regain a two goal lead, but Indiana Tech was able to tie the game 11-11 with 11:12 left in regulation. The teams the alternated goals for the remainder of the second half as Warriors scored with 32 seconds left in the second half.
In overtime Kuzava was able to give the Panthers a 14-13 with her only goal of the game, and Lemcke sealed the win for Davenport with just nine seconds left in the game, as DU went on to win the game 15-13.
Davenport will conclude their regular season schedule on Sunday afternoon as they host Siena Heights at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field for senior day.
