GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers played their first match at the new Farmers Insurance Complex stadium in a non-conference matchup with the University of Rio Grande Red Storm.
Davenport took it to the Red Storm early as they scored three first half goals to take an overwhelming advantage.
Alayna Hilgendorf led the attack with two first half goals while Katherine Steiner tallied the third. The Panthers outshot Rio Grande 6-to-2 for the period and goal keeper
Tara Gessler tallied two saves as Davenport took control of the game.
This momentum carried into the second half as the Panthers tallied four more goals on their way to a 7-0 win.
Nea-Stina Liljedahl tallied two goals while
Shameeka Fishley and Nina Van Orshaegan each added one.
The Panthers totaled 15 shots for the game, including nine on goal, while they allowed just four. Gessler picked up her first win of 2015 with a four-save performance that resulted in the shutout.
