Panthers Use Three-Point Shot to Top Aquinas, 89-58

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Panthers held just a seven-point half time lead over Aquinas College Saturday afternoon before they opened up the game behind junior Lauren Brower and the three ball. DU would go 8-for-15 from behind the arc in the second half led by Brower who would knock down four of her five attempts as she led all scorers with 14 second half points. The Panthers pulled away in the second half to an 89-58 final score and advanced their 2015-16 record to 12-3, 8-0.

The Panthers and Saints fought to a 40-33 half time score as DU shot 34.9% from the floor while Aquinas shot 36.8%. The Panthers held Aquinas in check with their defense as they forced 11 turnovers and recorded four blocks for the half, led by Molly Babbs as she totaled three. Momo Neal would spark the DU offense as she came off of the bench to total eight points on 3-for-5 shooting from the floor. Aquinas hung around in the game behind Tyra Williams who recorded eight points for the half.

DU then opened up the game in the third quarter behind Brower as she hit back-to-back three-point shots to open the half on Amanda Merz assists. This would spark an 11-2 run to begin the second half and the Panthers would put the game out of reach. Alex Law would add to the three-point onslaught as she went 3-for-4 for the half on her way to a 12-point game. Brower went on to lead all scorers as she recorded her highest scoring game as a Panther with 17 points while Merz aided the offense with a career-high nine assists.

DU scored 49 points in the second half behind relentless play on the boards as the Panthers outrebounded Aquinas 53-40. Babbs led the Panthers with 11 rebounds to go along with her 12 points, both career-highs, for her second double-double in a row. Davenport scored 48 points in the paint and 27 second chance points. Kendra Cook helped DU dominate inside with 11 points while she tied a career high of eight rebounds.
