GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - If the Davenport men's soccer team ever had a signature game it was in Saturday night's 3-2 win over Madonna. The Panthers kept themselves in second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference by grinding out a win despite playing the final 62 minutes a man down after a red card was issued to
Carson Brinks. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on a goal by
Cam Cavanagh which was his second of the year.
TJ Ifaturoti played a ball to the back post and Cavanagh slid it across the goal line. The Brinks card came on a slide tackle in the penalty area and allowed Billy Werthman to convert a penalty kick in the 39th minute for his eighth goal of the season.
Yuri Farkas made it 2-1 less than two minutes later as he followed up a rebound and put it home for his sixth of the season. It took Davenport just 39 seconds to respond as
Kevin LaCroix scored his first of the year on a pass from Cavanagh. He took a shot from the middle of the field around 20 yards to the top left corner.
The teams played solid and physical in the second half as both teams played with reckless abandon. The Panthers got magic in the 82nd minute as
Jake Love scored his sixth of the year on a rebound off a header from
Stephen Carroll in close.
Aaron Orban made seven saves in goal for DU improving to 10-0-2. Marcel Schmid stopped four shots in the contest.
