Panthers Roll Over The Bulldogs In Back To Back Games To Remain Undefeated

Davenport outscores Ferris State 22-1 in the two game series

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Panthers continue their epic start to the 2016-2017 season as they remain undefeated and have outscored their opponents 55-10 over the six games. The team has had scoring contributions from multiple different players and the balance of their overall game, defensively and offensively, is the reason they are off to such a hot start.

Game 1 (Friday, October 21st)
Final Score: Davenport 12, Ferris State 1
Location: Big Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 5-0, Ferris State 0-10

GOALS PER PERIOD
1st Period: DU-3, FSU-0
2nd Period: DU-6, FSU-0
3rd Period: DU-3, FSU-1
Final: DU-12, FSU-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers took little time to get rolling as Donald Sund would score in the third minute of action, he was assisted by Kyle Downey and Jake Otto. Davenport would pour in two more goals by the end of the period and led 3-0 heading into the second period.
-The second period saw the Panthers distance themselves from the Bulldogs as DU would score six goals in the period all while shutting out Ferris State. Otto would score two goals during the period and Sund would assist on two goals to lead the Panthers.
-The Bulldogs finally squeaked one goal in during the third period, however the Panthers would respond with a goal of their own and finish the game winning 12-1.
-Otto, Branden Burton and Dugan Kelly each had two goals a piece.
-Sund tallied four assists to lead DU.


Game 2 (Saturday, October 22nd)
Final Score: Davenport 10, Ferris State 0
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 6-0, Ferris State 0-10

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers continued their momentum from game one into game two as they would score four unanswered goals in the opening period. Jake Otto started up exactly where he left off, with a couple of quick goals in the first period, both were assisted by Donald Sund.
-Just like the day before the Panthers owned the second period, they would score five goals without letting up a goal. Chris McRae and Sund would each score their second goal of the game during the second period. The Panthers outscored the Bulldogs 11-0 during the second period over the two games.
-Trevor Murray would be the only goal scorer of the third period for either team, he was assisted by McRae and Kyle Mazur.
-Four different Panthers would lead DU with two goals each, Sund, Otto, McRae and Murray.
-Three different Panthers tied with two assists a piece, Sund, Otto and McRae.
-Tyler Buchanan got the nod to start this game. He played all 60 minutes and during his first collegiate game recorded a shutout while saving 17 shots.
 
COACHES CORNER
"In game one we had nine different goal scorers and in game two we had seven different goal scorers" Stated head coach Chris Green. "As a coach I couldn't be happier to see the depth we have on our squad. This team is something special! Even though we still have a lot to improve upon I am extremely excited where we are at this early in the season".
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers take the week to prepare for a road trip as they travel to Illinois to take on Northern Illinois University this upcoming Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will be played at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's game will start at 5:30 p.m.
