Panthers Go 1-1 During Opening Weekend of Hockey Against Midland

Davenport wins first game 3-1 and loses second game 0-2

FREMONT, Nebr. - The Panthers split 1-1 against Midland University while in Nebraska. Davenport didn't show any first game jitters on their way to a 3-1 victory. The Warriors would come back with some stellar defense, shutting out DU in route to a 2-0 victory the next day.

Game 1 (Friday, September 30th)
Final Score: Davenport 3, Midland 1
Location: Fremont, Nebr.
Records: Davenport 1-0, Midland 2-1

1st Period: DU-2, MU-0
2nd Period: DU-0, MU-1
3rd Period: DU-1, MU-0
Final: DU-3, MU-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Lexia Boydston started off the season with a bang as she would score the first two goals of the game, assists were credited to Megan Martin and Laken Kunz.
-The second period saw the Warriors make a comeback as they scored one goal and held DU scoreless.
-The Panthers would wipe away the hopes of a comeback as Emily Ellis would score her first goal of the season to put DU up by two goals.
-Boydston led DU with two goals.
-Martin, Kunz and Adrienne Porcalla all tallied one assist.
- Karley Ferguson saved 13 shots and only gave up one goal through 60 minutes of play.


Game 2 (Saturday, October 1st)
Final Score: Midland 2, Davenport 0
Location: Fremont, Nebr.
Records: Davenport 1-1, Midland 3-1

1st Period: DU-0, MU-0
2nd Period: DU-0, MU-1
3rd Period: DU-0, MU-1
Final: MU-2, DU-0

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers would be shut out in all three periods. However, they didn't go down without a fight. DU tallied 51 shots on goal during the 60-minute game. Opposing goaltender Miranda Bestul would save all 51 shots by the Panthers.
-DU would tally eight penalty minutes for the game.
- Ferguson spent all 60 minutes in goal. She gave up only two goals while saving 19 shots.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers get the week to recover as they don't play until this Friday. DU will have two home games this weekend as they take on Michigan State University on Friday at 8 p.m. and University of Michigan on Saturday at 9 p.m. Home games take place at the Patterson Ice Arena!
