Panthers Beat The Warriors 1-0 And Advance To Conference Tournament Semi-Finals

Allison Luurtsema scores the only goal of the match in the first half

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers took advantage of the opportunity to beat the only team that beat them during the regular season. Davenport defeated Indiana Tech 1-0 during the opening round of the WHAC conference tournament tonight and advance to the semi-final game. The Panthers will play Madonna University this Saturday, November 5th at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.

Davenport dominated all 90 minutes of this game on both ends of the ball. The Panthers held the ball and were getting the runs and looks at the net that they wanted. The shooting stats were lopsided in favor of Davenport as DU would tally 20 shots (ten on goal) and the Warriors would tally three shots (one on goal). Allison Luurtsema would put the Panthers on the board first in the 40th minute of play. Juli Knapp played a ball in the middle of the box and Luurtsema timed it perfectly as she hit the ball from about 16 yards out into the upper part of the net. This was Luurtsema's fifth goal of the season and her third game winning goal of the season.

The second half had lots of action, however the Panthers weren't able to convert on any of their shots. Davenport led the corner kick category as they had four corner kicks in the second half alone, the Warriors would not earn any corner kicks during the game.

Davenport improves to 17-1-1 on the season and earns a trip to the WHAC conference tournament semi-final game against Madonna University this Saturday. On the other side of the bracket Northwestern Ohio will play against the winner of Siena Heights and Concordia.
