Davenport Loses Weekend Series In Ohio Against The Number One Team In The Nation

The Panthers get shut out in two games by Miami of Ohio

OXFORD, Ohio – Davenport had a huge challenge over the weekend against Miami University (Ohio). The Red Hawks are ranked first in the nation and were too much of a challenge for the Panthers to overcome.

Game 1 (Friday, December 9th)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Miami University 2
Location: Oxford, Ohio
Records: Davenport 7-9, Miami 12-2

1st Period: DU-0, MO-1

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers faced off against their toughest opponent of the season so far in the Red Hawks of Miami. Davenport was outshot 47-16 during the game.
-Miami got things started with a goal in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead going into the second period.
-Davenport played some tough defense as they shut out the Red Hawks during the second period. The Panthers had a power play opportunity towards the end of the second period, but the Red Hawks successfully defended against it.
-During the third period DU tried to pick up their intensity of play, but gave up a goal in the eighth minute and were booked with three minor penalties.
-Karley Ferguson was a stud in goal, she faced 47 shots and turned away 45 of them.


Game 2 (Saturday, December 10th)
Final Score: Davenport 0, Miami University 4

Records: Davenport 7-10, Miami 13-2

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Red Hawks turned it on during the second game of the series.
-During the opening period Miami scored two un-answered goals while successfully defending against a power play opportunity by the Panthers.
-The Panthers found themselves down by three goals just under seven minutes into the second period. Miami scored another goal late in the period to create a 4-0 lead.
-Davenport played some tough defense during the third period, however their offense wasn't able to find the back of the net.
-Dawn Salo and Ferguson both saw time on the ice in goal during the game, Ferguson had 26 saves and Salo stopped all 15 shots sent her way.

 
UP NEXT
The Panthers host Robert Morris this upcoming weekend for their last two games of 2016. On Friday the game is slated for 8:30 p.m. and Saturday's is 3:30 p.m. Davenport looks to head into the near year with two more wins under their belt.
