Davenport And Rio Tie 0-0 after 110 Minutes and Rio Advances In Penalty Kicks 4-3

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Davenport and Rio Grande tied 0-0 after 110 minutes of play; Rio advanced 4-3 on penalty kicks. The Panthers had an outstanding performance in the semi final game and were eliminated from the tournament in a tough way. This was the third straight season that the Panthers were in the elite eight of the national tournament and second year in the past three that they made it to the final four of further.
 
The match featured two extremely talented teams and both fought their hearts out for the entire length of the game. Davenport had more scoring opportunities then Rio did. The Panthers tallied 17 shots and six of those were on net, Rio was only able to record two shots on net. Aaron Orban made a stellar save on the second shot. Rio had a free kick from about 25 yards out and Orban tipped the ball off the goal post and snatched the ball out of the air.
 
During the second over time period Davenport had a couple prime opportunities. A shot by Cam Cavanagh ricocheted off the cross bar and away from the net. Brayden Texer had a shot in the box that was saved by the opposing keeper.
 
The team had a couple un-lucky moments during the penalty kick portion of the game and were eliminated by Rio Grande 4-3 on penalty kicks.
 
Davenport finished the season 20-2-3 and saw a lot of success on and off the field. Big time congratulations to the senior class that made such a positive impact on the rest of the team and the program. Jake Love, Osvaldo Villagomez, TJ Ifaturoti, Kevin LaCroix, Emir Cengic, and Jordan Van Oostenbrugge and Chad Gordon. The team competed extremely hard from the first game of the season all the way up until the last minute of the Rio game.
