PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The men's Division II hockey team won for the 18th time this season on Friday night with a 5-1 victory over Michigan.
Branden Burton and
Jessee Game had phenomenal efforts on the offensive end as Burton had a goal and three assists. Game recorded three assists for the first time this season.
Jake Otto and
Donald Sund gave Davenport a 2-0 lead after the opening stanza. Otto scored at 11:29 from Burton and Game for his eighth of the season. Sund scored the game-winning goal for the fifth time this season and scored his 23rd goal overall on the power play at 18:18 again from Burton and Game.
Wesley Cimmarrusti cut the lead to 2-1 just 34 seconds into the second period for the Wolverines. Zac Bodziak scored his team-leading 24th of the season at 12:33 from Burton and
Daniel Swink to increase the lead back to two goals.
Rick Cigile scored unassisted at 15:45 for a 4-1 lead entering the final period.
Burton completed his four-point night with the only goal of the third at 5:13 from Sund and Game.
Zac Smith improved to 6-1 in net for Davenport making 22 saves. DU recorded 40 shots on goal as Scott Trellis stopped 35 including 16 in the first period.
