Season Ends with 2-1 Loss to Lindenwood in national semifinal

Matt Kaludis made 33 saves for DU

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - The Davenport men's Division I hockey team had their national championship hopes come to an end in the national semifinals on Monday with a 2-1 loss to Lindenwood. Both goaltenders were on their game in this one as Matt Kaludis made 33 saves for Davenport and Michael Hails stopped 37-of-38 shots for the Lions.

Graham Zagrodney scored the game's first goal at 17:10 of the first period with an assist from Brennan Luscombe. The Lions took a 2-0 lead at 5:31 of the second period as Jake Fairchild scored on the power play from Stephen Bopp and Tommy Heinzman.

The Panthers got the next goal at 12:16 of the second as Jordan Simmonds scored his 22nd of the season from Matt Ogden and Kody Polin. The third period was a stalemate but Davenport held an 11-6 edge in shots on goal. The Panthers were making a big push towards the end of the game but a tripping call against Alyx Fonseca at 17:22 put DU down a man at a crucial time. The team emptied the net for 52 seconds and almost had a chance as time expired but could not knock the puck into the net.

Davenport finished the season 33-4-0-1 which is the second-best record for a Division I team at DU.
