MOBILE, Ala. – The most successful season in Davenport women's tennis history came to an end on Wednesday as they fell in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Davenport finished the season at 25-6 overall after a day where they beat No. 21 Reinhardt in the first round before falling to No. 5 Brenau. The opening day of nationals was postponed due to the weather in Mobile and the first match was started at 8 a.m. Reinhardt picked up two of the three doubles matches but Davenport finished them off with four straight singles wins in a 5-2 final.
Alyssa Fuentes and
Puck Luttikhuis won 8-0 at one doubles, but the tandem of
Anne Douwes/
Steph Ritson lost 8-3 at two doubles.

Emily Spiech also lost 8-6 at three doubles. The match turned in singles toward the Panthers' favor. Fuentes, Luttikhuis, Spiech and Barrett each won in straight sets.
The Golden Tigers of Brenau (Ga.) had too much firepower against the Panthers in the second round which began around 3:30 p.m. Fuentes/Luttikhuis had a tight 8-5 loss at one doubles against Fatytha Berjane/Patricia Recalde. Murphy/Spiech had the best chance at a doubles point but fell 8-6 in the three spot against Kristen Dickins/Paula Rives. Ritson and Douwes fell in straight sets as Brenau picked up the needed fourth and fifth point to advance.
