GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport football team will be back in action at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex this Saturday at noon against NCAA Division II opponent Kentucky Wesleyan. After two weeks on the road, the battle of the Panthers will be a Black Out Game presented by Lake Michigan Credit Union. All Davenport fans are encouraged to wear black to the game and the first 200 DU students in attendance will receive a black free t-shirt compliments of Lake Michigan Credit Union.
Davenport will be looking to get back into the winner's circle and are currently 1-2 overall. They dropped a hard-fought 20-17 decision at NCAA Division II member Tiffin University last Saturday. DU begins a stretch of their season which sees them play five of their final seven games at home. The October 8th contest against College of Faith will be an exhibition contest at noon and does not count towards the team's win-loss record.
Davenport has excelled in special teams this season as
Patrick Gregory has made 14-of-14 in point after attempts and connected on 2-of-3 field goals.
Nate Couturier currently ranks fifth in the NAIA in punt return yards (108) including an 82-yard return at Kentucky Christian.
T.J. Douglas has been a ball hawk in the secondary and ranks eighth nationally in passes defended (6) while also ranking fourth on the team with 22 tackles.
Brent Showers ranks 15th nationally and leads the team with 34 tackles. He also has 3.5 tackles for a loss of 15 yards on the season.
Hunter Krause is completing 55.6 percent of his passes for 463 yards and five scores this season.
Herman Brunis leads the team with 14 catches for 172 yards and three of those scores, all coming in week one versus Taylor.
