Panthers drop road match to Lake Superior State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Davenport dropped their second match of the weekend and have yet to win on the road this season. The Panthers had to default three points due to a shortage of available players today. Sophie Gossett earned the only DU point in the fourth singles slot.

In the doubles Steph Ritson and Adeline Nelson couldn't get the win, they lost 4-8 in the first doubles spot. Bridgett Barett and Gossett teamed up for the second time this season and were close to win but fell 8-9 in the second doubles slot. Davenport defaulted in the third and final doubles match.

Ritson took on the number one singles player for the Lakers and lost 3-6 and 2-6. In the second singles spot Nelson fell 2-6 and 2-6 to Tara Harvey. Barrett played in the third singles spot and lost 3-6 and 2-6. Davenport earned their only point in the fourth singles spot where Gossett came up with the 6-3 and 7-6 win over Laura Valderrama.

Davenport will play three home matches next week on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to end their regular season play. The Friday match will be played against Wayne State at 3:00 p.m.
