CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Panthers got off to a strong start this morning against the Eagles, winning two out of three doubles matches. Davenport needed to win three out of six singles matches in order to secure their second GLIAC win of the season. The Eagles won four of the singles matches to win the match by one point.
Steph Ritson and
Terin Everse both went undefeated on the day, winning their doubles and singles matches.
Adeline Nelson and Ritson earned their fourth doubles win of the season. The duo took on the number one doubles team from Ashland and defeated them 8-4. Davenport won their second point of the match after
Bridget Barrett and Everse won a tight battle in the second doubles spot. The pair won the match 8-6 and increased their season record to 3-6 together. The Panthers defaulted the third doubles spot and took a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Ritson and Everse took care of business for DU in singles. Ritson won her team high third singles match of the year, defeating Brianna Brdicka in the first singles spot. She lost the first set 1-6 and then bounced back to win back-to-back sets by a score of 6-3. Everse easily defeated her opponent 6-3 and 6-3 in the third singles spot. In the second singles slot, Nelson fought back after getting down one. She won the second set 6-3 and then lost the third 4-6. Barrett and Gossett fell in their singles matches. Ashland was given a point as Davenport defaulted the final singles match.
Davenport will play their final regular season match tomorrow against Tiffin University. The match will start at 9:00 a.m. at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
