SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Davenport took on Michigan State University during the 15's National's play-in game on Saturday. The Panthers rolled over the Spartans 115-7 and advanced to the quarterfinals. Davenport won their seventh straight game with the win and the fifth time scoring over 100 points this season.
The Panthers had a slow start against the Spartans. Michigan State was very physical and hard hitting, Davenport had to adjust their body positioning at the breakdowns. "We were just running too high into contact and they took advantage of that," said Head Coach
Greg Teliczan. "
Hunter Moreland,
Danielle Ordway, and
Olivia Ortiz still were able to take advantage of some over aggressiveness by the Spartans, scoring some early tries."
Eventually Davenport was able to get a good game flow and took control of the match. Ordway broke her own school record by scoring eight tries in the match. Davenport will take on Minnesota in the Quarterfinals of the D1 15's Nationals tomorrow in Illinois.
