Four goals for Kyle McConnell helps DU earn a win and tie at Robert Morris

CHICAGO, Ill. – Davenport had arguably their best mini-series of the season against Robert Morris University. The Panthers went on the Eagles home ice and tied the first game and won the second, walking away undefeated on the weekend. Kyle McConnell had a big weekend for the Panthers, he scored four goals over the two games and added one assist.
 
Game 1 (Friday, December 8)

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport and Robert Morris battled it out in the first game, each team scored five goals during the game. In the first period the teams swapped a pair of goals to leave the game tied at 2-2. Tyler Jaenicke and Anthony Bagnasco scored the two goals for DU.
-McConnell took over in the second period for Davenport. The Eagles scored the initial goal of the period and then McConnell scored two straight to give the Panthers the 4-3 lead after two periods.
-Robert Morris squeaked in two quick goals at the start of the third period to take a 5-4 lead. McConnell came through in the clutch and scored a goal with just under four minutes to go in regulation to tie the game 5-5 and eventually send the game into overtime.
-During the overtime period neither team could score and therefore a tie was awarded to both teams.
-McConnell ended the game with a hat trick.
-Jessee Game assisted on two different goals.
-Devin Rosema played all 65 minutes in net and recorded 23 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Robert Morris again scored the initial goal of the game, but this time Davenport combatted that goal with two of their own. Chris Pakalnins and Bailey Rietman scored goals in the first period to give Davenport a 2-1 lead after the first.
-McConnell scored the first goal of the second period and pushed the DU lead to two goals just about halfway through the game. The Eagles scored a goal with just about 10 minutes left in the period to cut the lead down to one goal.
-The Panthers dominated the final period, scoring two unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 victory over the Eagles. Both Evan Carroll and Hunter Ellens scored the goals for Davenport.
-Five different players scored a goal for DU, Pakalnins, Rietman, McConnell, Carroll and Ellens.
-Bagnasco assisted on two different goals.
-Again Rosema played the whole game in net and saved 24 of the 26 shots he faced.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers play one final mini-series of the year before they get almost a whole month off of competition. Davenport will be at Grand Valley State on Friday and host the Lakers on Saturday, with a start time of 9:20 p.m.
