Davenport drops two games against seventh ranked Miami University

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport hosted Miami University (Ohio) in a mini-series over the weekend and fell to the Red Hawks. The first game on Saturday the teams needed an overtime period to determine a winner. Emily Ellis tied the game at 2-2 late in the second period and was the last goal of regulation. In the second game Davenport scored on three of their seven shots on goal, but could not get enough shots on goal to win the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Miami scored just 14 seconds into the game to take an early one goal lead. Davenport tied the game at 1-1 with just under four minutes to play in the period. Tori Dubuc scored a power play goal for the Panthers, assisted by Olivia Rudberg and Courtney Mulligan. The teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
-The Red Hawks scored the first goal of the second period to take a 2-1 lead over DU. Ellis came through in the clutch later on in the period to tie the game 2-2. Ellis scored on both an unassisted and shorthanded goal for DU and her goal ended up sending the game into overtime.
-Miami scored just under two minutes into the overtime period to earn the immediate victory.
-Both Dubuc and Ellis scored for DU.
-Rudbert and Mulligan each had one assist.
-In net Dawn Salo played 61:43 and recorded 37 saves.
 
Game 2 (Sunday, December 3)
Final Score: Davenport 3, Miami University 7
Location: Grand Rapids, Mich.
Records: Davenport 4-11, Miami 9-5

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Davenport found themselves down three goals after the first period ended. Lexie Boydston scored the lone goal for DU in the period just 81 seconds into the game, assisted by Ellis and Mulligan. Miami scored three unanswered goals after Boydston scored and the Red Hawks led 4-1.
-Miami extended their lead in the second period, scoring two more goals and led 6-1 after the second period.
-The Panthers made a comeback in the final period, outscoring the Red Hawks 2-1. Jaiden Forrest scored the first goal of the period and Mulligan added another with 51 seconds left in the game. However, the comeback was too little too late as DU fell to Miami 3-7.
-Three players scored one goal for DU, Boydston, Forrest and Mulligan.
-Amanda Ballestero, Forrest, Ellis and Mulligan all had one assist each.
-Julia Gaynor and Salo split time in the net, Gaynor recorded 24 saves and Salo 19 saves.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers play a single game against Trine University this week. Davenport will play on the road in Angola, Ind. for the game against the Thunder.
