Davenport tallies two wins during opening day of Nashville 15's Tournament

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Davenport goes 2-0 during first day of the Nashville 15's Tournament. The Panthers defeated Bowling Green and Northern Illinois University and advance to the semifinals.

Game 1 vs. Bowling Green State University: DU-52 | BGSU-0

Brenna Donahue opened the scoring for Davenport just eight minutes into the match with a beautiful try in the left corner of the try zone. Donahue scored against just minutes later by picking up the ball off a ruck, sidestepping numerous BGSU defenders, going 30-meters and un-touched for the games second try. With Davenport's discipline moving forward the panthers opened the flood gates. Amy Plambeck, Hannah Garcia (2trys), Danielle Ordway, Allison Miedzielec and Daluck Prashasouk scored try's. Hannah Tennant was six for eight on conversions.

Game 2 vs. Northern Illinois University: DU-26 | NIU-12

The second match was a much tighter battle. Davenport went up against a very determined NIU team that continued to run power at the panthers all day. The Huskies scored the first try of the match on a nice run through the Davenport defense. Down 7-0, Davenport fought back with Madison Sparks touching down on the right side of the try zone. Tennant's kick was good following the try tying the game at 7-7. Seeming to get some rhythm going Veronica Overbeek powered over the defense putting DU up 12-7, Tenants kick was wide right. Due to a defensive mishap by Davenport, the Huskies gifted fly half was able slice right past Davenport's scrum and link up with her wing. She scored down between the post to tie the match up 12-12, their conversion hit the upright and bounced out. The Panthers made a few adjustments at half and started out strong with powerful runs time and time again by Destiny Menther and Miedzielec. These runs broke down NIU's defensive line and provided space for Ordway to cross the line from 25 meters out. Tennant's kick was good and DU took the lead 19-12. NIU continued to pressure Davenport and took advantage of both handling and mental miscues to threaten time and time again in Davenport territory. The Panthers finally caught a break on a NIU handling error and Hannah Garcia scampered 60-meters to close out the scoring.

Davenport will play in the semifinals on Sunday at 9:00 am. Their opponent is undecided at the moment and if DU wins they will play at 12:00 pm in the finals.
