Panthers dominate in Tennessee while taking home first place trophy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Davenport annihilated their competition on Sunday while in Tennessee against Illinois State University and Iowa State University. The Panthers shut both teams out and scored a combined 139 points over the two games. Overall, the women's rugby team went 4-0 over the weekend and took first place in the Nashville 15's tournament.

Game 1 vs. Illinois State University (Semifinals): DU-60 | ISU-0
Davenport opened up their semifinal game a team earned try, scored by Amy Plambeck. The Panthers forwards were once again dominate, providing clean lanes for the talented DU back line to carve up Illinois State with countless scores. Danielle Ordway led the attack with three try's. Madison Sparks and Plambeck had two try's each, while Destiny Methner, Veronica Overbeek, Allison Miedzielec all had one try a piece. Hannah Tennant converted five kicks and Hannah Garcia made two.
 
Game 2 vs. Iowa State University (Finals): DU-77 | ISU-0
In the finals Davenport once against came out of the gate strong, using their forward pack to dominate the match. Just under two minutes into the game Sparks scored in the corner to make it 5-0 and Tennant's kick missed wide left. Within minutes, Ordway timed a perfect pass from Tennant and dashed through defenders putting DU on the board again. This time Tennant's kick split the upright and the Panthers held a 12-0 lead. From this point on Davenport never looked back. Ordway finished with five try's, sparks had three try's, Adrianna Martinez had two and multiple players finished with one try. Tennant was 3/7 on conversions, while Garcia slotted three. The victory came with some bumps and bruises as Methner suffered a knee injury and Lizzie Hoeksema received a concussion.

The Panthers will compete in the University of Michigan 7's Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Saturday.
